MESSAGE: 2 Cor. 1:3-5

1. Life is hard, and we all need comfort.

John 16:33

A.  We all encounter troubles.
B. We all encounter tribulation.

2 Cor. 1:8-11

2 Cor. 7:5-6

2. God is good, and He sends comfort.
A. The Lord seeks to comfort His people.

John 11:17-44

Take a moment reflect on a painful or hurtful moment in your life?

B. The Lord sends people to comfort.

2 Cor. 7:5-6

3. The body is beautiful, and it gives comfort.
A. Be sensitive for opportunities to comfort.
B. Be sure you are offering comfort.
  • Using facts, logic and reason is not comfort.
  • Giving advice is not comfort.
  • Giving criticism is not comfort.
  • Giving a comparison story is not comfort.
  • Giving a pep talk is not comfort.
C. Be specific with your words of comfort.

 Comfort may sound like this:

  • “I’m so sorry that you are hurting.”
  • “I hurt for you.”
  • “My heart is filled with sadness for you right now.”
  • “My heart is breaking for you and what you are going through.”
  • “This must be incredibly disappointing. I care about that.”
  • “This must be so hard. I can only imagine the pressure you feel. I’m in this with you.”
  • “I love you and I’m in this with you.”
  • “I am on your side and I am committed to help you through this”
D. Be soft with the touch of comfort.
E. Be still in waiting with comfort.

So, let’s do the book:

 Rom. 12:15

Who is it Lord that needs your comfort? Who can I comfort with the comfort I have received?

 Matt. 5:4
